Waterproof jacket using the combination of a lightweight, breathable fabric and a sturdy fabric to help protect you from the elements.
Our team of passionate mountain backpackers has designed this jacket for walking in cold or windy weather while remaining completely protected
Hybrid construction
Combination of a durable and protective fabric (5.2 oz/m2; 70 denier) on areas to be protected from friction (shoulders, outer arms, front and back hem) and a light and breathable fabric (3.8 oz/m2; 20 denier) elsewhere.Back 0.8" longer than the front to ensure maximum protection and to cover the thermal layer 2 underneath if necessary.
Hood
Completely adjustable hood height and depth. Semi-rigid visor with integrated mesh headband to provide a high level of protection and support. The high stand-up collar effectively protects the lower face.
Pockets
2 hand pockets that remain accessible even when carrying a backpack and a YKK AquaGuard waterproof zipper. There is a mesh mobile phone pocket inside the right pocket.
Front zipper
Features a waterproof YKK AquaGuard zipper along the entire length with an inside flap providing protection from the wind. Under-placket folded on the bottom for easily engaging the zipper.Double slider allowing opening from the bottom of the jacket.Soft fabric flap at the top of the collar to protect the chin.
Protection
Double tightening with an elastic cord and toggle at the hem.Velcro-adjustable sleeves covering the wrist. The gusset on the wrist makes it easy to wear gloves with the jacket.
Waterproof rating of the fabric
The resistance of a fabric to water pressure is expressed in terms of the height in mm of a water column that can be supported by the fabric (test based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. Here are the waterproofing values of the Trek 500 jacket:25 000 mm before washing for the lightest fabric (11 000 mm after 5 washes)20 000 mm before washing for the strongest fabric (17 000 mm after 5 washes)
Water resistance of the jacket
The waterproof of the overpants was tested under a shower of 450 L/sqm/hour of water for 4 hours. This test reproduces the conditions of a thunderstorm in the mountains.
Breathability of the fabric
To find out if a fabric is breathable, we test its evaporative resistance RET (ISO 11092 standard). The lower the fabric's resistance, the more the water vapor evaporates, & the higher the fabric's breathability. We consider that:RET < 9 = very breathable fabric * 9 < RET < 12 = breathable fabric. Here are the breathability values of the Trek 500 jacket:> Most durable fabric:RET < 12 (or 8 lbs/sqm/24 h, standard JIS1099A)> Lightest fabric: RET < 8 (or 6.6 lbs/sqm/24 h, standard JIS1099A)
Water-repellent properties info
The water-repellent property of a fabric is its ability to let water run off its surface without absorbing it.This prevents the fabric from soaking up water, and keeps it lightweight and breathable. The fabric is made water-repellent by treating its outer surface, however this property may deteriorate with use.Water repellency can be reactivated by tumble drying the pants in the dryer for 10 min on low temperature. You can also use the FORCLAZ re-waterproofing spray (ref 855490)
